You have tried every diet on the planet, lost and gained dozens of pounds, and you’re still the same body weight (or heavier).
You’ve been told to eat low carb, high carb, low fat, high fat and you still have no idea what foods to eat or not eat.
You want to exercise but you don’t really like it OR you don’t want to do it alone OR you don’t know what to do OR you’re intimidated by the whole fitness scene.
Don’t worry….I got you!
My name is Cindy Dallow and I’m a Registered Dietitian with 30 years of experience helping people change their eating habits and their relationship with food.
I’m also a former chronic dieter and can relate to some of the craziness that you might be experiencing. I learned about Intuitive Eating and it changed everything. I now eat what I want, when I want it, but I also provide my body with the nutrition and movement that it needs to be healthy.
I’m also a Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor and I love teaching others about this very freeing and nurturing way of eating.
Lastly, I’m an endurance athlete and have completed numerous marathons and triathlons. I’ve always loved running and biking so it’s not a surprise I ended up doing triathlons (except that I didn’t learn to swim until I was 45 so they haven’t come easy). I don’t win races but I love training and the feeling of accomplishing a goal. Endurance sports are not for everyone, but regular physical activity is the best health insurance you can find.
My beliefs and philosophy about dieting and weight loss:
I worked as a clinical dietitian for many years and also provided outpatient nutrition counseling, most of which was helping people to lose weight. Almost everyone I worked with lost weight….but they also gained it back quickly!
I became frustrated with the revolving door to my office (and knew that it was the same for other dietitians) so I headed back to grad school to get my doctorate at Colorado State University. Along the way, I became acquainted with other health professionals who were also tired of handing out weight loss diets only to see people lose and regain weight over and over again.
There had to be a better way to help people improve their health other than weight loss. Not that weight loss is a bad thing; weight loss can be a good thing BUT because it’s so difficult to maintain a weight loss, it might be best to focus on other outcomes and let the weight fall wherever it will naturally fall.
Those outcomes include cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF), which happens to be one of the strongest predictors of longevity around. Many studies have shown CRF to be a better predictor of early mortality (from heart disease) than hypertension, high blood cholesterol, and obesity. In other words, it’s better to be fit and fat, than unfit and skinny!
You can read more about “fit and fat” here. Again, there’s nothing wrong with wanting to lose weight. But you need to be aware of the low success rate of maintaining a weight loss before embarking on any given diet. If you’re willing to take that risk, go for it.
But if you’re ready to get off the diet bandwagon and focus on healthy, sustainable behaviors, then work with me and I’ll get you on the right path to vibrant health and well-being that is comfortable and realistic for you.
What some of my clients have said:
“Cindy helped me embrace a wholistic approach to food. I am used to counting calories and with Cindy’s outlook on food I am able to enjoy delicious and nutritious food that really power my workouts.” Louie, busy mom and runner
“Cindy completely revamped my approach which helped me fuel both low and high intensity workouts correctly. which has made a huge difference in not only my ability to complete the workout but how I feel before, during, and after” Leslie, triathlete
Cindy re-evaluated my diet and nutritional needs and created an affordable and easy to follow plan. After a few months I am eating better without even thinking about it as I have learned to make healthier choices. I still have treats as Cindy doesn’t like to deny any foods, instead I have learned to identify why I want those foods and enjoy them when I do eat them. I have lost body fat whilst maintaining muscle and I can perform during my training sessions and short distance triathlons. I have learned a lot about nutrition working with Cindy, she has made eating very simple and enjoyable again!” Kat, triathlete
“Although I swam and ran for many years, I had problems with recovery when I started training for endurance events. Cindy’s counseling helped me get more out of my training and go further than I ever thought possible, including 5-hour long mountain bike races. I was pleasantly surprised to find how some simple diet changes could make such a big difference.” Geoff, busy dad, mountain biker, and road cyclist.
“I knew that in order to reach a new level I needed to take a good look at my nutrition. I worked with Cindy for 1 month and Cindy helped me understand that food is fuel, that carbs are my friend and that I need to take care of my body if I want to reach the goals I have set myself.” Stephanie, triathlete
